A cat story from our T-Town TNR supporter, Cathy Poirer...
This Is Monkey...
- Cathy Poirier
She rescued me after my divorce many years ago. My friend called me because her vet said Monkey kept getting returned by adopters even though the vet had explained that she wasn't a lap cat and would poop outside of the litter box in random places, when she was stressed. Which was all of the time. OF COURSE!
Amy knew that I had the patience and that my sweet, Siamese, Merlin, had just passed away. She was brought to this vet to be euthanized as she had toileting issues. Of course, my friend's vet asked them to relinquish custody and worked on helping "Wanda's" re-occurring urinary infections.

Her original owners had her front and back declawed (different vet), as a pet for their 3 year old and her paws got horribly infected. The sight of them made me cry even 9 years later. They were just...awful from the toe amputations that she had to have as a kitten.
Those owners passed her off to other people, who passed her off etc. until she landed at my friend's vet. She didn't even know her name and she was nine!! So, the vet called her Wanda.
She was terrified of small children.
She pooped in my bathtub at first. It took a couple of months and finding the right litter, going on prescription cat food for renal issues and a lot of love, but she was my shadow.
She adored my teenage son and then my new husband when I married him 2 years later.
She was 17 when she passed.

She's lived in Connecticut and moved to different homes and apartments with me and us. She traveled across country several times with me and was the best girl everywhere, every day and every minute.
She didn't want to be held on a lap or chest, but she was as close to me as she could possibly get 24/7.
I have three now, two rescues and one who walked in the door and never left. - Cathy Poirier
